Five Years Ago! #muc #graduatedfromcollege

Exactly five years ago, I graduated from the University of Mount Union. My best friend Dawn, Nan Wang (an old friend), and my favorite cousin (sorry to the other cousins) Bella were helping me pack my belongings from my apartment that I had on campus to move back to my mother’s home (where I would be for another two years before I set out on my own). Leah Scott, an older friend,  was there, too. Leah, Dawn, and Bella all became best friends then. I remember. Nan and I were in my room finishing the packing and were actually the saddest ones. She was going to miss me. I was going to miss her and the rest of the college. It was a necessary change, but a super big one.

I remember that I was driving my black Madza Millenia ’97 after we finished packing and taking care of other business. Dawn was in the front seat while poor Bella was stuck in the back with all of my belongings. All three of us were happy to listen to Dimmu Borgir’s album, “Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia” on the hour and a half road trip from Alliance, OH to Toronto, OH. Bella was impressed with my musical tastes, as they resemble her own. She is like my little sister, despite us only seeing each other once a years (other than this year. We see each other almost every month or so).  I remember Bella bitching about how hungry she was, too, because she kept reminding us about dinner arrangements they made at home without my knowledge. At 5:48 p.m., we had arrived at my mother’s home, where there was food for her. I was too stressed to be THAT hungry, but Dawn was quite happy to eat as well, even though she generally talked about other things to distract my cousin and herself from being hungry. Dawn was also slightly hung-over from the party we had the night before, too. Ah… those were the days.

These are pictures BEFORE I started packing up and going home:

    1. My God yes! Those were the days. It was time to move on. My brain couldn’t keep up with the college pace forever. It is a good thing I graduated when I did.

  1. Happy 5 years later! I hope it’s all you thought it would be…and more!! Are you from OH btw or the south since that is where you are now? Thanks for sharing the pics…you look happy! 🙂

    1. Yeah. I am just nostalgic for those times. I miss my college days. Things are okay, but I thought I would be farther. But, I am very glad to have met you.

And I am actually from Illinois, but I was raised in the South and went to school up north.

I was very happy that day! It was a MAJOR accomplishment in my life!

      1. It is a major accomplishment and you should feel proud! Good for you!! It’s funny the twists and turns that life takes and one day you stop and think, hmmm how did I end up here…I wanted to go there. But I think we travel as we do for a reason and later we often learn why some things happened and sometimes we don’t.
Thank you, I am very glad to have met you too… 🙂
I had a girlfriend in Junior High who was from Chicago, I think she moved back there after she graduated high school. I only went to college for a year and it was a community college so there was no living on campus. I bet it was a lot of fun!! xo

    2. The college experience was incredible. Sure I was very much to myself and didn’t like most of my peers, but that’s every school I’ve ever been. The peers I did like were incredible, though. I still correspond with some of them today. And yeah, I never thought I would be in Athens, GA when I graduated college. Honestly, I didn’t even know this place existed. But I love everyone, so all in all it’s good.

      1. It’s not necessary to have lots of friends, just real friends which is what it sounds like you have! I’m happy that you love everyone and are satisfied with where you are…very important!! xo
